How Old Are They Meant To Be!

So how old were all the kids meant to be in the movie, because like Tom Welling is in like his 30's was just wondering! thanks guys, have a nice evening!

reply

well he's still in high school but he's going next year to college so i'm thinking around 18ish?
he was about 26 when the movie came out so there isn't that much difference. at least he looked the part of a teenager, unlike ben mckenzie in the o.c. i love the show but there's no way he pulled off being a 16 year old.

Nora: 22
Charlie:17
Lorraine:15
Henry: 14(I think)
Jake:13
Sarah:12....

I know for sure the first 3 but the others are guesses.

Jake couldn't be 13, because he was younger than Sarah, and they were both obviously in elementary school. I say that they were obviously in elementary school, because they went to the same school as Mark and the twin girls. Sarah was probably in 6th grade. Some schools districts have 6th grade in elementary school. Unless, she was held back or started late to school, Sarah would be 12. We know that Henry, Jake, Sarah, and Mark were born in consecutive years because the mother tells us that. Depending on what part of the year they were born in, my best guess for those four would be:

Henry: 13
Sarah: 12
Jake: 11
Mark: 10

They don't say that the twin girls were born in consecutive years with them.

I think they would have been about 8.

Mike was in between the twin girls and the twin boys. He would probably have been between the ages of 6 and 7.

Nigel and Kyle were between 4 and 5, because they were going to start kindergarten the next year.

Nora was 22, because they actually give her age.

Charlie was supposed to be about 17 or 18. He was a senior in high school.

Loraine was probably about 15 or 16. She was at least in the ninth grade because she went to the high school with Charlie.

Sarah- 12yrs
Jake- 11yrs
Mark- 10yrs
Girl twins- 9yrs

Yeah Sarah had to be older than Jake cause she wasn't in the scene where the kids (including Jake) go to the elementary school.

Assuming a K-5, 6-8, 9-12 school district (which seems likely since we never see Sarah + Henry and Charlie + Lorraine in the same school shot):

Nora: 22
Charlie: 17
Lorraine: 16
Henry: 12
Sarah: 11
Jake: 10
Mark: 9
Kim + Jessica: 8
Mike: 6
Kyle + Nigel: 5

There're a bunch of clues in the film that pretty much pin down the ages. They say Nora is 22. Charlie is looking at college scholarships, so he's probably going into senior year, 17 . Lorraine graduates at the beginning of the sequel, 2 years later, so she's 16. Kyle + Nigel are in kindergarten, so 5.

The 4 middle kids were born in consecutive years (mentioned in the voice over in the beginning). But only Jake -> Mike were shown in the elementary school scenes, so that pins Jake at 10. (This is also consistent with Henry being in the high school band at the beginning of the sequel.) We don't know about the girl twins for sure, but since they were planned, it makes sense that they were only a year after Mark, with a gap before Mike. Then since Tom got a vasectomy after Mike and the boy twins were conceived two weeks later, that puts Mike at 6.

I think yours are pretty accurate at the start, not so much towards the end, have a look at Mike, no way that kid is meant to look 6.
Personally I would say

Nora: 22
Charlie: 17
Lorraine: 16
Henry: 13
Sarah: 12
Jake: 11
Mark: 10
Kim + Jessica: 8-9
Mike: 8
Kyle + Nigel: 5

I'm not sure how elementary/primary school works in the US, here we finish primary school at 12, but I thought in America it was 11
considering Mike was more or less an 'accident' (terrible choice of words, I know) theres nothing stopping him from being less than a year younger Jessica and Kim, I'm just pretty sure he's not 6.

I agree, but I would put the girl twins more at 8, because the mother says that Henry, Sarah, Jake, and Mark were born in consecutive years. She didn't say the girl twins were born in consecutive years with them. Mike about 6 1/2 to 7. The twins between 4 1/2 and 5. They weren't in kindergarten yet, but apparently were going to start school the next year.
