Original 1950 version much better

Today's problem --- remaking classics --- always leaving the viewer feeling ripped off --- I like Steve Martin a lot --- especially The Jerk and Dead Men Don't wear plaid --- but Clifton Webb and Myrna Loy are irreplaceable ---

Steve Martin is so wrong for this movie.Just as bad as Father of the Bride.

I love the original so much and I was hesitant to watch this remake.

The remake was a real let down. The original was so cute and sweet, I wish the remake didn't go for all the slapstick.

This wasn't a remake but an adaption of the book.

To me, it wasn't even THAT. They basically gave Gilbreth and Carey credit for the TITLE. The only thing the same was that there were 12 children. The Gilbreth parents (in the original) were REAL people who were pioneers in their field of industrial engineering (and Dr. Lillian Moller Gilbreth was the first industrial/organizational psychologist.) To me, they should have just called this movie something different. It could have really been a good movie if they had stuck with the real story (even if it was likely embellished a bit).

I doubt you have read the book. It is nothing like the book at all. The only things they have in common is 12 kids. There were no twins in the real family.

Yes! I love the original. My grandfather actually grew up with the original family this story is based on. I remember him driving me past their home and he'd tell me stories about growing up with them. I didn't see the original movie or read the book though until I was in my teens. I was impressed with the family and admire the mother for taking on such a task of running a business and raising 12 children.

When this movie came out I didn't want to see it as I felt it was an insult to the original family. The family was nothing like the one portrayed. I'm just now watching the remake. It's cute & I like it. But still the original is my favorite.
