Season 3 is a huge dissapointment

Why not just kill Hearst (b/c he did not get killed there in real life is the real answer). At one point Al says something to John about the shareholders descending if they did. So what? Whoever took over would likely not be as bloodthirsty as Hearst.

Bullock is ok with Al killing an innocent woman to appease Hearst? Sorry, that is completely contrary to his character. Hearst made them all his bitch and they did nothing about it.

I would say my memory is not what it used to be. But I don't remember what my memory used to be.

I completely agree.

Hate it, and have to agree.

Killing Hearst wouldn't have solved the dilemma of encroaching civilization absorbing the frontier, and all Al's hard earned work and effort with it.

Hearst was just the first, remove him and more would just take his place, and be less likely to cooperate with the existing infrastructure given the welcome Hearst had received.

Powerful men with a lot of money to hire outfits like the Pinkertons to simply burn Deadwood to the ground, and set up their own operation in its place.

Al wanted above all else to preserve the community he helped establish and maintain his place in it. Killing Hearst would have resulted in all that being laid to waste.

Yeah that is the story they told. I didn't buy it one bit. Apparently you did.

My understanding is: The series got cancelled by HBO... and there were a number of unresolved subplots because of that.
Milch, on the boxed set commentaries (which I think may have been filmed not long after the news) talks about some of this. You can tell Milch is hurt... and most of us wanna burn down HBO for not at least letting Milch have a 4th season to wrap the story. TV execs are nearly more stupider than politicians. I wonder if these could be the kids of the execs that cancelled Star Trek in '69.
