based on real serial killers?

Hi, was reading the above link and somehow it reminded me of this movie, which I had watched last week. Might be a stretch, the serial killers in the link had a term called Operation Miranda. And being silly me, I couldn't help but associate that with Dr. Grey.
I'm probably jumping way out of the hole here, but her husband and his best friend seemed awfully similar to this real life pair of partners in crime. (with a few discrepancies of course)
