Why did Rachel wait 4 years to contact Miranda?

And why was she so violent towards her? Miranda wasn't the perpetrator; she was trying to help Rachel.

If I ever start referring to these as the best days of my life, remind me to kill myself.

I was looking at this movie on TNT last night and I was wondering the same thing why did Rachel wait 4 years to contact Miranda and why is she trying to scare and hurt Miranda? Like SnowBoy said it might be for the audience. I think that could have been written a little bit better.

She tried to contact her father first, with the dreams, but he ignored them and eventually took medication to get rid of them. Miranda would be a logical next choice, since just like Rachel's father, she knew Doug closely. As for the violence, she died a horrible death and had been waiting for justice for years, I'd imagine she might not have been stable.

She wasn't exactly violent.

After watching, I noticed that those tiny scares and acts of violence were actually little warnings along the way.

This time, Effie White's gonna win.

Whitney was wrong. Children are no longer the future.

I think it was because of the bridge. After she had been killed, Rachel's body was thrown off of the bridge. Miranda only crossed the bridge that night because the road she normally takes home was closed. My guess is the filmmakers were saying Rachel's ghost was stranded at the bridge and only set free when it linked up with Miranda. I'm not sure why she couldn't have linked up sooner with someone else (like her father, who'd surely have visited the bridge) but I feel that's what they were saying.

I have a better question though...the whole Willow Creek part. The Sheriff claimed he didn't go back there and get rid of the evidence because he was too smart to return to the scene of the crime (not his exact words, but more or less what he meant). To me this felt like the filmmakers were trying to plug a plot hole, but in doing so just made it more glaring. If the Sheriff and Doug were partners, it goes without saying that the Sheriff would be on some of the "movies" at the cabin. The first thing the Sheriff would have done after learning of Doug's death would be to have gone to Willow Creek and destroyed all the evidence...especially as there was no connection between Willow Creek and Dougs death at that time.

good point on the bridge. i hadn't thought of that.

as far as the willow creek, why do you think the sheriff would assume that just because doug dies that their cover is blown? if the sheriff thinks doug confessed to miranda (therefore giving her a motive for killing doug), wouldn't she have told the cops immediately about willow creek? so the sheriff probably assumed their hiding place was safe.

she asks 'why didn't he [the second killer] go back to willow creek'?

he said: 'you mean, clean up the evidence, take care of the girl? well, that's how you get caught. you panic. better let the dust settle.'

my question is why was there a cop in the barn? it wasn't the killer sheriff, it was just a random cop. why was he there?

Good questions, and theory about the bridge. You may be onto something there - the father probably did visit the bridge, and his daughter did try to 'link' with him by appearing in nightmares of her burning, but he took meds.

Why so violent? Maybe it's the only way she can communicate with the living/get her point across/be noticed, etc. Maybe, like a previous poster said, it just built up in her and after 4 years she became violent.

As for the conversation between Halle Berry and the Sheriff - I think they were both speaking in the third person. She asks "why didn't he go back to Willow Creek", though it does sound like you. His response is "Well, that's how you get caught. You panic." They're using "you" in the sense that one uses "one". (That was unintentional on my part) That conversation was poorly executed, IMO.

And as for the other quesiton about random cop showing up - they probably got around to searching the house, finding the pictures scattered on the floor, noticed the blood smear on the one of Willow Creek and followed the lead to see if it went anywhere. I would imagine there were different cops going to various places known to the assailant.
