Significance of the title 'Gothika'?

I was just wondering if there is some significance to the title of the movie, especially having been spelled with a "k" in it. Is there some symbolism in the name?

After reading through the notes, surmised that the title has absolutely nothing to do with the movie.

I think it makes total sense. Gothika is taking place at a remote location, a prison that does resemple a creepy castle. It also contain a violent and mysterious content.
To why it is called "GothIKA", I think it is to modernize it a bit and perhaps make it seem more European (it was after all where the gothic genre was created). It's silly, but a lot of movie titles have done a lot worse.

Silly but there are sillier ones . That's something.

The story content fits both "gothic" definitions: Sheriff Ryan's Anima Sola tattoo derives from an image that most commonly represents a woman surrounded by flames and breaking free from the type of dungeon seen in Medieval architecture. Rachel is the newer form of Anima Sola, punished by the dark underworld of her captor (Sheriff Ryan or "the devil" as Chloe calls him) until he faces justice. Gothic takes the new name of "gothika" in this movie to mirror the change and newness of the paranormal world to Miranda and her colleagues.

The second gothic definition applies in part to the loneliness of seeking answers without the belief and support of the people you depend on.

Wow, thanks for the response. That makes great sense!

It is called Gothika because it is an interesting sounding title. The connection is feeble and clutching at straws.

I watched this again today, and was surprised how much I liked it, although I think Halle Berry is a mis-casting.

I keep wanting it to be called Gothikea.
Where do those who have sinister castles and creepy crypts go for home furnishings?

I watched it again, it is okay
