A film people love to hate for little to no reason

...let's be honest here. This film isn't ground breaking nor does it deserve any kind of award. But come on, this film isn't as bad, mediocre, or terrible as people say it is. A majority of the acting is decent, the plot wasn't that overused, the filming wasn't that bad. People just love to hate on this film for really no reason. Compared to remakes and junk that gets released now in 3D, I'd take this film any day over watching anything that's released in theaters today. In fact I believe this film should have a sequel and expand upon the other worldly apparitions. It's like a mix between White Noise and The Ring, a vengeful ghost that uses a third party as a catalyst to extract their revenge for their own ability to rest in peace.

I thought it was great...can't really believe it has a 5 on IMDB. I'm one of the most critical movie watchers you'll ever meet...I thought movies like There Will be Blood and No Country for Old Men, and Inglourious Basterds were hugely overrated, and actually sucked. But this movie had a really good plot that kept me interested the whole time, and Halle Berry had me mesmerized the whole time...freaking beautiful. Some stuff didnt make sense...like the ghost beating the *beep* out of Halle to let her know the sheriff was the bad guy(why not beat the hell out of him)...but overall, I really enjoyed it.

To answer your question XResidentXEvilX, I don't hate this movie. If it wasn't for the big stars of RDJ, Berry and Cruz, this film would have been unnoticed. Shoot, not even a cult following. I got into the trailer because I like horror and I had a thing for RDJ at the time and came away disappointed. The plot was confusing and far-fetched. The acting was hammy. It seemed like big Hollywood trying hard. It could have been an okay movie or the type of movie people will see on TV if there's nothing to wrong if they just tweaked a few things.

If you realize that there was no ghost and Berry beat herself up it all makes sense.

I love this film and it helps that RDJ was sexy as hell.

Yep, people hate this movie for no reason. There's a few stuff which didn't make any sense but it was an interesting movie to watch with good acting from Halle Berry. The 5.7 rating is a little low compared to other movies in the same range such as Crank 2: High Voltage, Friday the 13th remake and Dead Silence.
I give Gothika a solid 6/10 rating. No more no less. A decent film in other words.

I agree with you guys. This film wasn't without its flaws... but the acting and production are top notch... And in some perverse & twisted way, I think this film is beautiful. Some of the camera effects are "other worldly". Way cool.
