Why did she beat her up?

Why did the ghost girl beat Miranda up inside the cell and throwing her against the walls and stuff? Was it because she was getting frustrated Miranda couldn't figure out the messages she had been sending her?

To draw the guards' attention to her cell so they would come and open it allowing Miranda to escape.

I thought the ghost unlocked the door on one occasion. She shouldnt have needed the guards for that...

so she could get the keys from the guard

It was probably a mix of frustration combined with her ultimate goal of getting Miranda out of the cell. Rachel is capable of opening doors herself - as we saw in a previous scene - however in this instance Miranda is in solitary where there are nurses on guard and CCTV cameras in operation. Had Rachel merely opened the door and Miranda casually stepped outside she would have been caught immediately. By throwing Miranda violently against the walls, Rachel knows it will attract attention, distract the guards and doctors and also give Miranda enough adrenaline so she can escape.

But I do also think frustration plays a large part of it. Rachel does seem to be incredibly annoyed with Miranda at this point, and that's probably due to Miranda's increasing dejection - she still hasn't put two and two together and is pretty much feeling sorry for herself. Rachel's lashing out is probably her way of saying 'I'm still here - don't ignore me'.
