Why did they include all the Mirandra/Pete stuff

if nothing was gonna happen between them?
Like asking him why they didn't have an affair, and when she saw the picture in his desk.

misdirection- I kinda thought he would turn out to be the disciple at the end

Exactly. This is what my housemate also thought throughout the movie. Everything about Pete screamed that he was in on it.

So, you're saying that if something is introduced, it has to reach conclusion.

Isn't that what you critics call "predictable"?

It was introduced to add complexity, depth, and drama to their relationship.

For him to want so much to protect her from herself at first, and then later to come around to having faith in her at the end, he had to be very focussed and attached to his "patient" and this was accomplished by making them not only friends, but very close friends with a complex dynamic under the surface.

It also satisfied as a vehicle to evoke Halle's sexiness and make the viewer think about her from a sexual perspective, which brought more depth and involvement, and entertainment to her character.

Hey, I have a question about Pete....(please excuse my English)

How did Pete realized what was happening at the end? How did he know that it was Sheriff Ryan who killed all those girls whith Doug?
At the end of the movie we see Pete running to the window and he says 'sorry' to Mirranda for not believing her... But how did he know she was telling te truth and that Sheriff Ryan was a killer?

Please help me, I don't know what happened. :)

Because maybe the movie showed that kind of "relationship" where one is in love with the other, but that other doesn't love in return.

During the whole movie I never saw in Miranda any attitude that showed beyond a feeling of friendship or hospital mates for Pete.
Even when he was lovely or wanted to talk or stay with her,Miranda, politely, marked a distance. The car scene in the rain or when he wanted to eat pizza with her.She always said "no" with a smile. And you could see Pete looked a bit sad/dissapointed.
He was really in love with Miranda, but Miranda only could see him as a friend. So, it is not strange,at the end they don't end up like a couple.

It is quite normal Pete stayed working at the hospital and Miranda walked her own way.I am sure they stayed like friends.
The thing about the picture and the affair comment only showed Pete loved Miranda. In the picture he was staring at her with lovely look and she didn't pay attention to him,and the affair comment,I think Miranda felt confused and she could not remember the things clearly due to the accident, so she tought if they had an affair and needed to ask to remember the things again, because before the accident she probably knew Pete was in love with her, but after the accident she was not 100% sure about the things,so I think she remembered something romantic related to Pete, but she did not know what it was and that's why she asked.

But even when Pete said " because you was married" and she answered "But not now" I don't see it as if Miranda wanted to start something with Pete.It was because she was in pain due to the loss of her husband and she regreted her loss. She really loved her husband, and being so proffesional and cold,it would have been weird to see her dating Pete like a desperate measurement..Clearly in the movie she never showed a love feeling for Pete.

IN the movie they sell the story of two mates sharing love for their work, the medicine, and being something like friends..And like one of them fails and the other is there to help...I never saw it like if they sold the image of couple..
