According to Nausicaa.net, the US rights to The Cat Returns/ Neko no Ongaeshi are owned by Disney, and that Disney eventually plans to do a dub and a direct to DVD release. When that will be, who knows, no date has been set yet, and I have a feeling it won't be anytime soon, since Disney is releasing Howl's Moving Castle in 2005 along with the English dub of Porco Rosso, the full English dub of Nausica Valley of the Wind, and the redone version of Tortoro.

Maybe 2006, since suposedly Whisper of the Heart and Only Yesterday are also getting dubbs.

looks like you can expect to see it february 22nd in 2005, instead of the new release of totoro. here's a url:

Okay. This is weird. This came out of nowhere. All of a sudden we get a full U.S. cast list and a U.S. DVD release date of "The Cat Returns," which is in fact a sequel to "Whisper of the Heart," which already has a known U.S. cast list but hasn't gotten a U.S. release date yet. So I'm wondering why they plan to release this before its predecessor.

But the fact that "My Neighbor Totoro" has been bumped off the list has me wondering yet again whether 20th Century Fox is trying to keep the new Disney edition off the shelves so the foolscreen-fullscreen Fox edition can still get business.

But considering that Dis has removed these DVDs from their retail schedule at least twice, there's more than a chance that they'll change their minds yet again.

I'm just glad it's getting released and I hope Disney releases the Studio Ghibli titles quicker.
