I felt that the movie was not as good as Whisper of the Heart. I found the characters in WotH more likable.
sharei loved this film as well, albeit not as spectacular as other ghibli titles, but still just as enjoyable and wonderful :D
plus Haru as a catgirl i thought she was cute
I agree t was short, but still pretty good. I haven't seen Whisper of the Heart, but I'd like to. I did think it was weird that it was called the cat returns, but that didn't take anything away from my enjoyment.

I thought the movie was paced just right. Though, I do agree with the statement that it isn't as good as Whisper Of The Heart (which is also paced perfectly).
For this reason above all, their capacity for good, I have sent them you. My only son.
Whisper of the Heart was better, but not as funny. This one was meant to be fast-paced and lighthearted, while WotH was one of those stories that sort of stays inside of you.
If you watch Whisper of the Heart, you'll find out why it's called "the Cat Returns" ;)

I didn't think it was too short, in fact it is a good length for when you want to watch a good film but don't want to stay up too late.
I'm only going to say this once: stay out of Camberwick Green - Sam Tyler
I just happened to rent both Whisper of the Heart and The Cat Returns (I didn't even know they were related).
I watched WotH first and I thought it was pretty slow and boring, I guess I was expecting a certain level of whimsicalness like other Ghibli titles and found the movie disappointing. Even the ending made me go, "WTF?!? What kind of ending is THAT?!" Sorry to those who DID like it, but that's just how I felt.
I popped in Cat Returns and, yeah it's hardly perfect (and felt a little short), but I enjoyed it a lot more. Great English voice overs, lovable and memorable characters, nice touches with humor, and has that same great "whimsical" experience that I've come to expect from other Ghibli works.
I also feel rather perplexed, and stroke my chin in thought, if the "Baron" in the two movies was portrayed as a villain in One Piece: Baron Omatsuri and the Secret Island since that was one director's "F&*k you!" to Miyazaki and Ghibli. Good film, yes definitely, but still mysterious.

I agree, if it was 15 minutes longer, I would have given Cat Returns a 10 for sure, because I genuinely loved it. It is just so relaxing to watch. Great animation, voices and music. I recommend it highly, for those in the need for relaxation.
the weakest studio ghibli movie, in my opinion. the story was cliched, no real depth in characters. etc etc. that you would normally expect in a studio ghibli movie.

studio ghibli movies are clever, and generally aimed at all age groups with its themes. cat returns was simple most of the mindless entertainment we get, in other words its not art like laputa or spirited away,

Great manga, great anime - the characters were utterly enchanting. Def. recommend to any anime newcomers like me who prefer quality over quantity.
