I wasn't that impressed in 2004, but after recent cinema garbage

......I really miss a movie as this one. Back then we had The Lord of the Rings, Troy, Kingdom of Heaven, Master and Commander- good war movies.

Since then there's been nothing........just Thor and Guardians of the Galaxy and Star Wars destroyed by JJ Abrams.

Where has cinema gone? In what direction? Is this what future generations want? We had culture, we had epicness, grandeour, like Alexander. We had imagination, now there are only stereotypes.

God, how I wish another movie like the ones above was made.

I'm sorry I rated it a 6 back then. I now change it to a 9. It deserves it.

My ratings are not always like the IMDB average score because I only enjoy intelligent movies.

You aren't very far wrong.
Seems for the under 35's, the film industry has been and is dumbing down.
How much, like you, I wish for another epic on the scale of the original Ben Hur or Spartacus, even Gladiator. I am sure many potential lead actors would relish the roles.
Michael Mann was planning a film about the battle of Agincourt, then the scriptwriter was changed and until today (from 2-3 years ago) have heard no more.
Mark Wahlberg is planning a movie on the years Julius Caesar was kidnapped by pirates, before he donned the purple of a knight of Rome. How that will eventually turn out, way too early to tell. No idea who the scriptwriters or main actors will be. These will be crucial. (Can't see Wahlberg as Caesar! lol!)
Btw, I rated this film a 6.0 as you did.

I agree with you in part. Though I've always been a fan of Alexander since I first saw it upon release. I was 17 at the time so believe me, some young people do want intelligent films like this. My friends (also 16/17 at the time) enjoyed it too.

I've bought the other versions on DVD and recommend the 2007 'Final Cut/Revisited'. If people were first introduced to that version of the film, I believe the film would have a far better standing today.

I rated it a 9.
