I know that divorce in Italy was illegal until more recently.
When did it become legal?

In the movie, the older sister says she and her husband are separating. I guess they divorce.
I'm not completely finished with the movie, so I don't know if he appears.

Actually, I never even remember seeing a wedding or her husband. Does he ever appear in the movie?

Another actually, at the beginning of the movie, I didn't even realize there were two sisters. We met the younger sister early on, but where did the older sister come from? Was she in any of the beginning scenes?

In Italy divorce has been legal since 1970.
As for the sister, she was the oldest one of the Carati siblings and was already married and living somewhere else at the beginning of the story. If I remember correctly her husband doesn’t appear at all in the movie.
