shareThey shown the execution of Rohm...I'm pretty sure it was accurate as they displayed it. They offered him a pistol and was told that he was an enemy of the state. He refused to comit suicide and he was shot. They also did show the Beer Hall Putsch, and the trial.
shareThanks alot.I really want to see this.I hope Robert Carlyle makes a good Hitler.
shareOnly if you like your Hitlers with a side order of 'Cor-Blimey' Van Dyke...Chin Chiminy, Chin Chiminy, Chin-Chin-Charoo indeed. especially the little turd they got to play 'Teenage Hitler' (not "young Hitler", he can be forgiven of his acting woes by being 9)
shareWhat are you talking about? Robert Carlyle makes a great and accurate portrayal of Adolf Hitler.
shareHe needed more emotion instead of blankly conveying a weak english sounding script. Hitler didn't get into power by simply ranting and raving all the time, he was actually very clever. Robert Carlyle seemed rather shallow in my opinion.

Robert Carlyle is magnificent in the role of Hitler here.
"I hope Robert Carlyle makes a good Hitler."
Not even Hitler made a good Hitler.
i like carlyle but he was weak in this one, you cant sit there and watch the villain the entire movie without showing SOME depth. Best film representation is of course Der Undergang, which was brilliant in showing how psychotic he could be without making him just totally mindlessly evil, which he wasnt. he was a human who was driven by hate to do evil things.
shareInteresting how divided opinions are on Carlyle as to whether he played Hitler well or not. I definitely do not think it was an accurate portrayal at all. And I see the point someone made about Carlyle being chosen so as to not make Hitler look too good. That makes sense to me. Or maybe he was just cheaper to hire. I do like the film though, it has some amusing parts.
Der Untergang is such a great movie in my opinion. The acting & scenes were first class!
And I always like it when Germans speak German & not in some posh English accent which I think ruins the atmosphere totally. I'd take subtitles any day too even though I understand mostly; I find it is a great way to learn new words. And as we know the German language has more new words added to it every year than any other.
I don't even mind English spoken with a German accent if I think the film is good otherwise I think it can ruin & even give the film a comical impression..
Not to be argumentative, but saying that Robert Carlyle was cast because he isn't appealing is not true for everyone. I, personally, am a big fan of Robert's and thought his portrayal WAS actually appealing. I agree that he doesn't look much like Hitler, but I doubt that he was a cheap hire. My guess is they were looking for someone who could be intense and even hypnotic, which I think Robert is. That's my opinion.

The execution was not accurate. In reality when the soldiers came back Röhm was standing in his cell with ripped open shirt offering his chest for the bullets. Then he was shot. At least that's what the executors said.
In the movie Röhm did the nazi salute and said "Heil Hitler" when he was shot.
