That's interesting, but I can see where the money went, and it was well spent. The art direction and costumes were beautiful, and there had to have been atleast 30 different shooting locations.

Not quite; the USSR spent $100 million on War and Peace during its four years of production back in the 1960's. When asked about such a huge budget a spokescomrade replied, "What do you mean budget? We use whatever we need." 12,000 horses, 186,000 uniforms, over 100 Napoleonic era cannons...and well, you get the picture.
