Just to clarify about the 'annoying teen'...

This is definitely impossible to get for people who can't understand italian, so it's not your fault.

But I am reading lots of comments about Megghy being an "annoying teen".
Well, let me clarify that her acting is not poor, it's intentional.
I mean, I can understand why she sounds so annoying in a language you don't understand, but every line she say, and every intonation of her voice is intentionally over the line, in a fashion that is actually the driving force of the movie (in Italy).

She is not annoying at all if you not only understand italian but if you actually know some 14 year italian girls. Meggy is an INCREDIBLE rendition (with a funny angle, of course) of these kind of italian girls. "Trendy words" and wannabe-ism included.

From this perspective her performance is outstanding, and even if I really see your point, you should trust me that she sounds perfect, incredibly funny and worth every second of screen time.

P.S: When I started to see movies in their original language about 10 years ago (in Italy we are plagued by dub-mania) I was so disappointed by lots of young actors and actresses that I used to like. It took me about 2 years to get acquainted and really understand how different languages can have different "characterizations" that may slip without the proper (street) knowledge.

I'm Italian, Viola (as in, Italian from Italy) and I found Megghy to be extremely annoying anyway. Your post doesn't make much sense, quite frankly... sorry.

To those that found Meggy annoying, I have to ask "Haven't you ever raised an adolescent daughter?" She acted just like my thirteen year old and her friends. I recognized the facial expressions, the "as ifs", the trying to impress boys, and the belief that they can make adult decisions.

Yeah the maturity to look past a whiney, boy-crazy girl is universal. Meggy is by far whiney because she is learning about love, boys, life, her body -- she's frustrated. She's confused. And being a girl, looking back, I can probably admit I was not a Meggy wanting to go to clubsat 14 but I was the kid sister seeing my brother's firends in a goofy way and I'm thinking I was out of my league - at the time. Meggy reminds me of so many girls I've known around that age and above. She does serve a purpose. She fits along with the film well.

viola... i've just seen italian version, but I really think you got the right ideas about meggie, she isn't annoied at all! but i do understand forein people not understanding her tipically italian behavior.

Hey, Italian yourselves-fall in love, I do not think it is about the language. I am sure everybody whatsoever their native language is who saw this movie understood the mood and attitude of the teenager Meggie. Just because she does a great performance of what an annoying teenager is. In every language and part of this world they could be act like that under the circumstances she is going through, or better, the circumstances that she herself wants to expose herself to. I liked the movie a lot, I am not Italian, I understood her attitude, and I really thinks that lots of the comedy twists and funny misguidance to Stefanie goes on the act of Meggie, just by being that kind of annoying teenager. By the way, I would have truly slapped her when she tries to judge on her aunt´s sexual life.

I understood the bratty, annoying part because that's how a lot of teens are (used to be only American kids seemed to act that way, now it appears to becoming more universal). What bothered me is how physical she got toward her aunt, pulling her hair, tussling with her, etc. and I don't believe for a second that this is typical "Italian".
