The Impartial Judge

I just watched Capturing the Friedmans and something that struck me about the judge was how utterly unobjective and partial she was. She says at one point that as the defendants came into court she had no doubt in her mind that they were guilty. This is completely insane, judges are supposed to remain impartial and disinterested in order to objectively weigh up the evidence in the case before making a judgement.

As it goes I don't doubt that David Friedman was a child molester but when the judge just admitted as if it was no big deal that she had made up her mind before hearing the evidence it made me furious, that's not a judge that's just some woman who heard about the case and made her mind up. What kind of career did this woman have where the guilt of defendants who came before her was already decided upon.

"I don't doubt that David Friedman was a child"

DonĀ“t you mean Arnold Friedman?

I could be mistaken but I don't think she specifically said she thought they were guilty BEFORE the trial.

Watch again. Keep track of the timeline of her comments this time.

"Innocent until proven guilty" doesn't mean crap I guess.

[sarcasm]I always love hearing about cops beating people up and other criminials doing things to them, even though it's likely they are being wrongfully convicted -- always warms my heart [/sarcasm].

I guess it is true that just being charged with the crime -- even if you're not even found guilty -- can ruin a dude's life.
