What happened to the interview with Arnold about him being gay???

I saw this film during its original release.

I distinctly remember an interview with Arnold toward the end of the film wherein he stated that he was attracted to men when he was younger - and that he felt if society had been more accepting of homosexuality he might not have been so repressed, and, ultimately, not sought sexual satisfaction through young boys after he was an adult.

I remember THAT being the REAL "WHOA" moment in this film.

And I remember it because I'm gay and I thought "I don't know...maybe repression DID cause him to do what he did???"

I also remember thinking "That also implies that EVERY gay man has the potential to be a child molester if the repressive forces are strong enough. Alot of religious and right-wing groups could take Arnie's words and really use them to their advantage."

What happened to that interview? Was it omitted from the DVD release because it was considered possibly too inflammatory on the issue of being gay vs. now???

Repression? Why not just an exorcism? Most gay people aren't exactly flocking into the light to let God change them. The ones that do are living a delivered lifestyle. Of course, the gay community just dismisses them as having never been gay.

I could be considered religious and right-winged (but actually spiritual and independent) - you want me to explain to you about demonic doorways and the influence "it" produces, thus making an individual worse and worse?

If society were more accepting of homosexuality? Give me a break. Just think of all the things we can blame on society rather than taking responsibility for our own actions.

Tabby - you're nutz.

"Exorcism"? Really? There are alot of gay people affiliated with Churches and God and spirituality.

How far can you see these days? Just up till the end of your nose, right?

I bet you hate Jews, too.

Ah, now I'm disappointed in you...

And if you didn't know, Jesus was Jewish.

The influence "it" produces"? "It" being what? Homosexuality or pedophilia?

reply

Neither, I was referring to satan - I just didn't want to dignify "it" with capitalization. The story sounded like some guy invited demons personally into his life and then blamed society. If you give satan your life, it will sure take it - and use it.

Moral of the story... turn to God.

Does Obamacare cover exorcisms?

I thought it was in the shape of Florida!

I really, really want to remain respectable in this conversation, but I just don't see that happening. Do you know how incredibly insane the things you're saying really sound? Homosexuality being the result of demonic possession, or even just that it opens your life up to satan? I can't imagine anything more offensive to my intelligence. What a sad and pathetic life you must live. I can only hope that you one day renounce your love of (jesus) and (god) and learn that your beliefs hurt other.

If you don't believe in Jesus Christ and are 100% proud of it, put this in your sig.

I can't believe I just saw your post and it's been over a year since you wrote it. I don't believe homosexuality is a result of demonic possession. There is a difference between demonic possession and demonic oppression. Evidence of possession is violence/crimes. Oppression leads to possession... Lots of things can lead to oppression. Anything can be god in our lives.

Oppression or possession, you still sound like a loony bird.

>2010/11 and they still believe in God and ex-gay 'therapy'

Sure is troll in here.

No one can help who they're attracted to (just if they act on it or not), so why would they flock towards God? By that way of thinking, God created them - God created 'gay' people, so hating gays would be suggesting "perfect" God creates "imperfections", since people are BORN gay.

There's nothing wrong with people being attracted to other people of the same sex, as long as the other people are mentally developed enough to be consensual in their relationship.

nycruise1 - I actually had that same thought about repression being at least partly responsible for some of Arnold's acting out. Mind you, I don't think his "acting out" included the forcible rapes of the computer students that he wound up being charged with. But it did include some admitted acts of molestation as well as acting out with pornography because he was "stuck" or obsessed with the incest with his young brother.

I saw the DVD version via Netflix - Debbie Nathan reads a statement from him were he says that during his teens he began to have encounters with same-sex same-age partners - not young children.

In today's world, he would have been able to have healthy(ier) relationships with peers instead of having what sounded like sordid encounters with other teens who didn't feel any real affection toward him. It sounded to me like he craved affection & couldn't find it with the same-age boys he was attracted to.

Again, in today's world he might have been able to "grow up" sexually and feel good about identifying as a gay man, being open & accepting about who he was & relate to other men like him who were the same age. Instead, he seemed trapped in his feelings of intense shame, this need to hide and the lack of affection which caused him to remain so fixated on the unfortunate incidents of his childhood.
