Sympathy for the mother?

Why is everyone just lining up supporting the mother without even knowing her? It seemed to be that she had in her mind everything was alright in her mind until she was told about the molestation but we were not told when she found out about it. I do not think that the father was turning the sons against her all their lives. Elaine could have been in denial about many things or blissfully ignorant which does make her innocent. How could all these things have happened and she not know or even suspect?

She seemed like she was on some really REALLY good drugs to numb her brain or something... either that or she was retarded.

I have no sympathy for her, she seemed like a life-ruiner and she constantly made horrible decisions and tried to get her son to confess to crimes he didn't commit. THere's a reason EVERYONE hates her, I promise.

Also, at the beginning, she said she isnt' going to say anything, and then she said a whole bunch, so... weird girl.

Was she trying to get him to confess to crimes he didn't commit or crimes he would eventually confess to? Maybe she knew more about what was going.
