'It's called being pussy-whipped!'

When David blames his family's problems on his mother, claiming that Elaine "pussy-whipped" Arnold throughout their entire marriage, all I could think of was James Dean in Rebel Without A Cause being embarrassed of his father being ordered around by his mother all the time.

Does this thing even happen in modern-day families, or do some guys just make it up out of irrational frustrations?

It sounds like a desperate attempt to explain things.

That's exactly what it was. Nothing more.

He blames his mother to take the attention of the sick *beep* he had as a father, who he worshipped. Pretty typical.
