I'm just asking since Hannah Montana is Disney's #1 show and continues to be huge. They did it before with Raven and even Lizzie. But now it's all about Hannah. And it does seem that they favored Hannah and Raven more than this show. Do any of you think it would ever have benn as popular as Hannah?
shareOver time, it may have been as popular, but it didn't get good advertizing the way Hannah Montana And Raven got. Another thing that seems to be connected is that all the main characters from shows like Hannah Montana, Raven, and Lizzie McGuire were all singers, and a lot of their songs in the beginning were related to their shows. Songs are catchy and more memorable, and because they were overplayed, I think it acted as good advertising for their shows. Aly and Aj had some great songs that played on Disney that were equally as catchy, but none that I can remember were related to Phil of the Future. And I didn't even know until I watched Phil of the Future that Aly Michalka was on the show. I think people tend to flock to what's popular, and Raven and Hannah Montana got popularity and publicity like no other.
shareAlso, Disney Channel audience is mostly made-up of girls 6-11 or something like that. They would most likely watch the shows about the teenaged girls they look up to. Since POTF is about a boy, it probably didn't relate well to these girls, which means it didn't relate well to the majority of the audience. And from day 1 of a TV shows time on the air, its popularity generates how much publicity the show gets. Since Hannah, Raven, and Lizzie got good premiere ratings, Disney publicized it as much as possible in order to maintain that popularity. Since Phil got average ratings, Disney didn't pay as much attention to it.
shareWell, yeah. But then again, The Suite Life and Cory In The House are about Boys too. And although it's a Canadian original, "Life With Derek" is really popular, but maybe because of Casey AND Derek. So I'm not sure.
shareThose are more sitcom than PotF. They have laugh tracks, particular camera work, ect. Mostly every popular Disney show is in sitcom form. Lizzie McGuire was the exception. Also, Life With Derek does not get good ratings, I don't know where you heard that from.
shareI wonder if Aly was the main character instead of Phil would it have gotten better ratings. Cause it's true most of Disney's biggest hits have starred teenage girls (Lizzie McGuire, That's So Raven, and Hannah Montana, all the biggest hits when they were airing new episodes) and honestly I think Aly's cooler than Hilary, Raven and Miley. Plus she sings too just like all 3 of them. I think maybe because Raviv is an older guy though it wasn't as popular either (I think he is very hot and better than any previous Disney stars, but these girls I talked too thought he was gay, maybe because of how his character is on the show? I don't know where they got that from though.). Considering if their main audience is pre-teen girls then I can see why they would rather watch the Sprouse twins (the Suite Life), Kyle Massey and Jason Dolley (both Cory in the House) because they are more their age than Raviv is. Even Stevens was popular in it's time too but why I don't really know. I think a lot of people didn't give PoTF a chance either because the previews for it before the show aired did look really dumb (I thought it was just gonna be another dumb Disney show). And so maybe they never actually watched it and just always switched the channel when they saw it said coming up next. Life with Derek isn't that popular but I think girls would wanna watch it to relate to Casey and maybe if they thought Derek was cute. It's main character is Casey though. But Naturally, Sadie didn't last at all if you remember and it was about a girl. I guess it just all depends on who becomes the next it star for Disney and then that show becomes super popular. And Zac Efron has become an it star for Disney (even though he's branching out but he's still in the HSM movies) and he's older. I think the appeal of PoTF was limited because of it's premise so many didn't like it as well maybe because they can't relate to being from the future but there are plenty of other things to relate to (for girls too, they can relate to Keely especially on her boyfriend troubles and losing a friend and stuff). I guess we'll never know what could have been and why certain shows spring to popularity while other's fall behind.

Maybe if Disney had really promoted Aly as being the star, but their shows starring boys never do as well as ones starring girls. And you have a good point about Ricky being a bit old for tween girls to have a crush on, and some older girls were concerned about him being gay...
shareYeah, I couldn't believe it when those girls said they thought he was gay. I think it had to do more with how his character acted, and Ricky is sort of hyper or something, like when they interview him for commercials and stuff sometimes he acts all out there, which some see as a gay trait but it's not good to generalize like that, especially when Raviv seems so straight to me. But I think having a boy as the star was probably the problem, and that Aly and Ricky are older than most of the other Disney actors in current shows (Cory is just now turning like 15 right, same with Miley and a lot of the others, they are not 18 year olds playing high school students, they are really like 13-15 years old). That and the setting for the show actually being in high school were I think the things that drew people from watching it. And like I said earlier, the commercials for the show made it seem like the show was really stupid and crappy, I didn't even watch the show for a long time because the previews made it look so horrible. But when I actually watched it I enjoyed it a lot and realized it was a lot better than it appeared.

Even Raven and Lizzie had the attention of the lil girls and kids. If you ask me, it would of been GreaT to continue Phil cuse that show was Awsome! and really, no i dont think it would of ever been as big as Raven, Lizzie, and Hannah. well Also they had more stuff going on about the other shows too.... lk Products...

The Girls shows were big, and Phil of the Futures show coulndt really make it that high, but Still it(s) is/was a Awsome show an when it comes on i watch it.
i feel that disney sets shows up and designs them to be the lead show. when Phil was on Raven was the focus. Hannah Montanah runs disney channel right now and that is why shows like life with derek and whatever get put on the backburner. i do not think that it was ever intended to be the face of disney show. although, it was better than most.
shareI guess it's because they were trying to attract the wrong audience. The set-up, the humor, everything resembled more of the old Disney-Lizze McGuire, Even Stevens, etc. none of those that appeal to kids nowadays anymore. I don't really get how Ricky was too old for kids to have a crush on--how come Troy Bolton used to be all the rage?
Then again, Phil and Keely had that certain mature flair, and the show overall. If they'd made it clear and made older Disney fans their target audience, and thus improved production, I think it would've been a hit, because even though it wasn't as popular as HM, That's so Raven, or heck, even Suite Life, a lot of the older fans liked the shipping "Pheely", meaning it attracted older fans more. Just like Life With Derek.
