What is it about MARS??? [spoiler]

-When I watched the movie, I understood how he was basically a sociopath.
-But something about him is so intriguing
-I was crazy about him!
-I kno its kinda wierd
-But he was just so interesting
-I almost cried when he died!

"No, no don't ask any questions, my father’s the head of the neighborhood watch!"

reply

-Why do you talk in bullet points?

reply

Probably his intensity. As soon as you saw him on the screen, you knew out of the 3 of those guys he was going to be the most dangerous. The quiet guys are always the worst. He was just a great nihilistic character. Nothing was out of bounds, and yet I kind of felt sympathy for him since he was a product of a horrible upbringing, and he was clearly miserable and wished to be put out of it. It was a nice twist near the end that he was the one that actually ended up saving Bruce and the kids in the house. Not that he wouldn't have killed them too if he could've. Or maybe he intentionally finished himself off with that Molotov cocktail. That part was sort of ambiguous.

Better movie than I expected, and Foster stole the movie as usual.

You saw Dingleberries?

reply

Miserable with a hard upbringing? He was a bad seed who enjoyed killing people.... Nothing to feel sorry for...

reply

I wish I could think as simplistically as you. It must be nice to never wade into the depths of nuance.

He was a "bad seed" likely because he was a product of his environment, as we all are. That doesn't excuse or even mitigate his actions, but the fact that they addressed his upbringing in the movie adds another layer to his character. It's OK to have conflicting feelings about complex characters.

You saw Dingleberries?

reply

Ermmmmm he's not complex, I know plenty of kids with hard upbringings who don't stab people and watch them die at 17 years old... You're looking for art and a complicated answer where there isn't any.

Many of the world psychopaths had hard upbringings, many of the worlds nice people had harder upbringings, doesn't mean it gives them the right to be a serial killer.

- Bullet points are cool.
- Not caring at all if you look like an idiot makes you more cool.

reply

-Dear Lord!
-Do you have nothing better to do with your time than to criticize everything a person does?!
-Seriously!
-I.Like.Bullets!
-GET OVER IT!

This is how you chicks operate: As Bill Hicks said, "Chicks dig jerks". Ted Bundy was never so attractive to women in his life than after being charged as a serial killer, Richard Ramirez, Charles Manson keep receiving love letters in their cells. I wonder what I'm doing wrong haha.

Dave, this conversation can serve no purpose anymore. Goodbye.
