Why wouldn't a house with so much security have backup generators?

Haven't seen in a while, but my memory is that they followed the family to their house, so they were right behind them. And the Dad was kind of focused on the discs and then distracted by his kids, so maybe he forgot to secure the house. He probably didn't think someone would break in in the middle of the afternoon.
