What does Charles mean?

Just saw the DVD, and I have one question. Not an English native speaker, I rely heavily on the Chinese subtitle. And in the scene when Lord Charles comes to visit Julia in the country and when Julia tries to kiss Charles again, he says "I play for the other side." The Chinese subtitle means "I have to play the bad guy" and it doesn't make sense to me. One of my friends said it means "I am gay." So what does that sentence really means?

It means he's a homosexual. Sounds like you either got a bad translation, or an intentional censoring of the real meaning.

"or an intentional censoring of the real meaning."

Yes but they could have come up with something better maybe that would make more sence than "I need to play the bad guy".....how about...well...hummm. there has to be something....Impotent!!!!

"The most detestable habit of Lilliputian minds is to suppose that others are equally petty."

or perhaps 'I am an enuch'
