Avice Crichton's last name

English is not my native language, therefore I would like to ask you guys a question: what is the correct pronunciation of Avice's last name? While reading the book I used to pronounce it in my head the way it was written. But today in the movie I heard them calling her Avice "Cry-ton". Is that really correct and if so then why? I would understand it if it were written this way - Crighton.

First, you write our wacky language better than most native speakers. Michael Crichton, the late author, is also pronounced "Cry-ton". There is no equivalent to L'Académie Française to regulate English. Your scholarship is to be admired.
