She did an excellent job. When I think about it, Benning's performance was more memorable than Swank's.

I agree....I was going to start the same thread myself. She was robbed in 1999/2000 for American Beauty by Hilary Swank, and most definitely again by her in 2004. "Million Dollar Baby" was a good movie, and very sad. But in terms of an acting job, there is NO COMPARISON between the performances. What were those IDIOT Academy voters thinkng???? Annette Bening was beyond brilliant in this film...from her first line. The range of her speaking voice was a symphony. And her scenes WITHIN then play...acting within the film....were completely sublime.

She must have a Hilary Swank voodoo doll.
