OMG! This a top ten movie! Of what exactly! Seeing how many times in a film a lead actress can burst into tears? (She is rather good at that, I'll admit).
Seriously Annette Bening's performance was strong and she succeeded (just) in making Julia sympathetic, though I became sick and tired of her continual tantrums and the focussing on her relationship with Tom. IMO not enough time was spent on her relationships with her husband, son and the occasionally seen Lord Charles.
It's always nice to see Michael Gambon, but I just don't really think Jimmy Langton needed to keep reappearing throughout.
On the other hand the big surprise for me was Lucy Punch who was really appealing and genuinely funny at times, playing the played ingénue Avice.
Amazing? No! So - So? Definitely!
