Man this movie is badass...

I was scanning the local blockbuster's "foreign" section (That's where I spend most of my time...) and I picked 3 movies up. They were "Spring, Summer, Winter, Fall, and Spring", "Oldboy", and "Ritana". And boy, lemme tell you....that was the best night of movies I've ever had in my life. This movie especially (Mainly because I'm obsessed with anything Japanese, but Korean is in a close 2nd) because it used a lot of familiar ideas and molded itself into one great one.

Everything about this movie just clicked to me and I've been promoting it ever since. But, my question to you is...Can Takeshi make a "bad" movie?

Those are some kick ass titles. Oldboy is pretty influencial. You should see Tale of Two Sisters' or 'Shutter' too.

"Oldboy" 9.5/10 one of my favorite movies (if you haven't, watch other 2 movies from Park Chan-wook's revenge trilogy; Sympathy for Lady Vengeance (2005) and Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance (2002))

"Ritana" 5.5/10 very average noting special couple of cool sfx nothing more

"Spring, Summer, Winter, Fall, and Spring" still need to see this one

I loved "Returner." It may be derivative of other scifi movies, but it's a whole lot of fun. It's got a cool anti-hero, a spunky yet vulnerable heroine, and a so-bad-you-have-to-love-him villain. The action zips right along, the soundtrack is terrific, and the chemistry between Kaneshiro and Suzuki really works. The movie doesn't take itself too seriously. Neither should the viewer. I recommend taking it for what it is and just having fun with it.

tallcooll,

I like your description of this fun movie. It's just fun, not a masterpiece, not full of too serious dialogue. There is some simple character development, a bit of mystery and the two leads are great together. I agree when you say this movie is not so serious, and doesn't try to be.

This movie is great for a sick day to cheer you up, a lazy weekend just haging at home or a late night insomniac special. It's not too cheezy and not too serious.

Oh, and props for the villian. He was cooly played. What an *beep* you love to hate!

The movie did exactly what was on the tin: entertain. Voila, a cool piece of popcorn fun with nice eye candy. I bought it too.

I enjoyed this movie too because it's really just a simple movie where you don't have to think too much about it. I refer to these kind of movies as 'cotton candy for the brain'
It's rare to see a simple sci-fi film these days, half the time when I watch sci-fi films, I have no idea what in the world is happening. But Returner provided a great change. It had a simple storyline but fantastic character. And all the actors gave wonderful prefromances.
Please be really open minded when you watch this movie. Looking too deeply into it will only ruin it for you. It's just a simple popcorn film!
And to answer the OP's original question: No, Takeshi Kaneshiro is physically incapable of making a bad film. Even if he tried.

Don't worry. You might actually do some good before you die.
