The characters, and how they compare to Friends' characters

Steven = Chandler
Susan = Rachel
Patrick = Ross
Jane = Monica
Jeff = Joey
Sally = Phoebe

They even look like the cast from Friends.

I'm talking about the American version. This is the board for the American version. The cast on the 2003 American version of Coupling look alot like the cast of Friends to me, get it?

Lookswise I may agree with you but characterwise it is very different...

Steve = Ross - "Lead" character the central romance...kind of shy
Patrick = Joey - Womanizer...sometimes not too bright
Jeff = Chandler - The crazy best friend that at times steals the show from the "leads"
Susan = Rachel - "Lead" female central romance...sexy and confident
Sally = Monica - Neurotic but lovable
Jane = Phoebe - Crazy...though Phoebe has more heart than Jane (but Jane seems to be developing a bit more in this last season)

The problem is people keep comparing it to Friends...and while it is a similar premise it has a wholly different focus...the differences between men and women. Remember when Friends came out it was groundbreaking because it really sealt with sex and things like that bluntly...Coupling takes it all to the next level...
While I always think the British one will be better...My hope lies with Three's Company...same deal and look how good that turned out to be!

This is exactly the way I see it as well, Jeff is very much early Chandler, always wanting sex but always losing out somehow, more than often nervous sense of humour which Jeff has to a tee

"I hated her so much that flamesflamesflames on the side of my face..." Clue
