It should be so simple...

I enjoy a few good laughs, and I enjoy a show that features a circle of diverse friends. I thought Coupling was funny. I don't care what other shows it compares to, or what other people the characters compare to, I just enjoy the laughs. Aside from that I have little time to sit and pick something apart the way everyone seems to be picking this show apart. It will either last or it won't. If it lasts, I will continue to enjoy it and if it doesn't, I will be disappointed and find a way to pick up the pieces and go on with my life. Compare it to friends? Sure there are similarities, but Friends is over (pretty much), and maybe the network is trying to ease the blow by giving us another circle of "friends" to enjoy. I am sure there were those who picked "Friends" apart when it first started. There are still people picking it apart now, but somehow it lasted 10 years. Give this one a chance. You have seen ONE SHOW. Lots of things had to evolve on Friends after the pilot. Give this one a chance to find its weak spots and evolve on them too.
