True resons BBC's Coupling is superior to NBC's Coupling.
I defiantly agree too full extent with those who say the Americanized version of Coupling is terrible. The original BBC version is what I believe to be one of the greatest shows to date. The situations and dialog are so natural that it's hard to replicate. Which is why the NBC version is so bad, they put in American actors who can't make the scripts work. In the British version everything flows whereas the NBC version all the "punch lines" are so forced, so comments lose their comedic impact. The new version is also much slower and horribly unentertaining. As an American myself, I can say that the first couple of episodes of the British version had me stumped once or twice, but the American version (just the pilot) had me so baffled by the way they described things (i.e. hand stamp and elaborate spread) I obviously knew the underlying idea, however it just sounds terrible. Some the dialogue which was changed seemed to make the show more "racy" (i.e. the coming together quote by Jane) that was extremely unnecessary and it really was just tasteless. The British version has a so much more; I have to say dignified way of explaining things, even though the ideas behind them may be extremely "dirty". NBC writes even changed Patrick’s surname from Maitland to Bateman and I think they changed Susan’s surname as well, why does that matter so much. However, these issues aren’t the worst part of the show. The characters are worse. Richard Coyle is one of my favorite actors and his character Jeff, in my opinion, is one of the funniest television characters ever. Christopher Moynihan who is the Americanized Jeff has no comparison to Richard, and the same goes for the rest of the cast except for maybe Lindsay Price who plays Jane she has managed to grasp her character a little better than the others. NBC should have just imported the whole show as it was already with a fantastic cast and brilliant writers.
