Is this movie an authorised remake of Infernal Affairs?

I was asking myself the same thing, but it's been a long time since I've watched "Internal Affairs" (1990), so I don't clearly remember how much they overlap plot-wise.

Brad Pitts Studio Plan B bought the rights to the film for an American remake

It was originally going to be planned to have Cruise and Pitt to star. But I think this precasting was made even before William Monohan came up with the script.
