Were the sequels planned from the start because after rewatching this, it certainly feels like it.
shareI thought the same, but not sure at 100%. In fact in the first movie Tony Leung says: "I've followed Sam for 3 years. I had several other bosses before. All together it's been 10 years."
But at the end of the prequel we see that Tony enters the Sam gang in 1997. So it is about 5 years with Sam. And he doesn't mention "several bosses" apart from Sam or Hau. It doesnt't fit at 100% (but however what a great trilogy!)
This is not a continuity mistake but how does Shawn Yue become Tony Leung? They're so different in looks, voice, and personality! The only thing they have in common is that they wore the same leather jacket but that's it.
shareYeah, they are different... I put in evidence this line because it's the only small inconsistency I found. In the first movie Yan doesn't mention his past in the Hau gang, probabily the prequel wasn't planned yet.
