im 99 percent sure that the band singer guy is the lead singer of the red house painters... probably one of my favorite musicians. i checked on wiki and his name does pop up in the films credits. any other fans out there? either way, i didn't care much for this flick but it was nice to see/hear a great musician take part in it.

You could also check out Tiny cities, Sun Kil Moon's second cd, it's all covers of modest mouse... might be a little hard to digest at first, but it really grows on you... it's on the style of what's next to the moon (kozelek's own solo cd of slow core covers of AC DC)
you definitely need to pick up sun kil moon's album. the song from shopgirl is called 'carry me ohio'. the entire album is just beautiful. the album of modest mouse covers is great as well. if you're already a modest mouse fan you may not like it at first, because it's so mellow and modest mouse isn't, but you will grow to love it.
