Writhing in discomfort (SPOILERS)

I consider myself a very open-minded person, but something about Martin and Danes' chemistry just gives me the creeps. She is such the "daughter" and he is so much the "father" in a good portion of the movies I've seen, and he just seems a little pervy. I know she's desperate but wow...
I at the scene at his house where he's stroking her on the bed... I have not finished the film yet. Hopefully I will change my mind, but I am seriously having convulsions every time they touch...

Well, you know, sometimes when they touch the honesty's too much...

reply

Yeah, I had to close my eyes and hide... I think that's what it was.
Thanks for the laugh.

Fire! FIRE! FIRE!!! Cat?

To those of us who have had May-December romances it's not strange at all! It's just two people in search of what they need and sometimes that comes in a person we don't expect.

Non-traditional perhaps, but nothing to be creeped out over.

The movie is based on Steve Martin's book Shopgirl. The book has a larger focus on Mirabelle and Ray's relationship, and it is supposed to be father-daughter. They talk about her absent relationship with her father, and how Ray doesnt have children of his own. I agree that the movie made their relationship a little weir -- I recommend reading the book. It explains everything much more.

reply

Although it was based on other material, a movie should be able to stand on its own. Anything other than that is a failure.
