Why was Ray attracted to Mirabelle in the first place?

In the book it said that Ray often used to go to (I think it was) Barney's and "pick up" salesgirls the same way he did with Mirabelle. I was really disappointed when I read this.

I wanted sooo much for it to just be a one-time thing he did with Mirabelle. I read the book a long time ago and forgot about this. Then I saw the movie and read the book again. The second reading is when I saw this. (I got so much more out of the book after seeing the movie.) This really made me see Ray in a different light...and, not a flattering one.

As for choosing her because she seemed like an easy target, I can't really say for sure. I think he would have chosen someone like her friend at the cosmetic counter if he was looking for someone easy. I like to think that he was attracted to her because she seemed quiet and because she looked bored and maybe he wanted to see what made her tick. Why would someone work at a solitary counter like the glove counter...what more does she have to offer?

I liked it better before I read that he had done it before. That makes it seem creepier than just doing it once.

he was physically attracted to her look - attractive and slender. It's not rocket science and there's probably not much more to it than a physical attraction...

Is he a cad because he can't make a commitment to her? Yes. But she doesn't make it clear she's looking for a real commitment either. She's vague.

Well, I'd like to say that I shall also be attracted to her because of her personality.

Before Ray came in, she was all the time looking bored, with her elbow on the counter and her chin on her wrist. That kind of corporal language says "I'm waiting to something to happend". Also she always looked at happy couples. This two things can be quite revelaing about her personality, if you know how to look at them you can tell that she is almost crying out loud for someone to come and "rescue" her. Well, Ray got that message.
