Mirabelle's clothes in the movie

Claire Dane's clothes were so beautiful in this movie! I especially loved the top she wore when she and Ray first met at the glove counter.

Her clothes are clearly vintage-inspired. Where else besides vintage stores can I shop to get her look?

Yeah, I was thinking the same!, all the movie I was looking at what she was wearing (besided paying attention to the plot and soundtrack) and it looked awesome for her!, not everyone can wear that retro clothes and look that well and sofisticated.

I love the white dress she was wearing when steve martin mentioned having another departament and share it with a woman with kids.
Also the brown dress when she met jeremy before the galery, the shirt she had when we first see her in the galery, etc...

gorgeous clothes.

Stores like Urban Outfitters and Forever 21 carry a lot of feminine, vintage-inspired clothes.

From what I remember at the time, the wardrobe dept decided to use vintage as you can get really good style/quality at a low(ish) price point - and an arty girl like Mirabelle would definitely know and wear vintage. Mirabelle expressed herself through her clothing - it was a true reflection of her character.

Don't be afraid to shop vintage. You can get vintagey-looking styles at forver 21, H&M and anthropologie, but the 21 clothes will fall apart and aren't worth the $, and the anthro stuff is crazy expensive. Why not look around at local thrift/vintage/goodwill stores and get a feel for what looks good on you?

Vintage is the way to go.

Wow. And to think I HATED those clothes. I guess it's because I see Claire Danes as that beautiful blonde and I thought the clothes just added to her drabness. (maybe that's what they were going for) They seemed, like her, to have no personality. I'm not saying the clothes weren't nice but I didn't think they complemented her. Her character was so dull! But I did like how she turned out in the end.

I felt the same. The clothes lacked personality and were depressing - or maybe you could say, they complimented her depressing personality.

reply

I agree with bh9...her clothes were hideous in this movie! They were poorly tailored and drab as all hell. I thought this was done to emphasize her loneliness and depression. The only outfit she looked nice in, IMO, was the flower dress that Ray bought her.

What I've got in my head you can't buy, steal, or borrow. I believe in live and let live.

I would suggest ModCloth.com

In what way did her clothes lack personality?!

I loved her clothes, too, and I didn't think they were boring as some commenters said. I found her work outfits to be classic and tasteful as would be appropriate for Saks.

As for shopping for similar clothes, someone already mentioned ModCloth (http://www.modcloth.com/), and I also like eShakti (http://www.eshakti.com/) because you can have items made to your own measurements. They're always having a sale, and they give you coupons after each order you place.
