Destroying the machine is not enough

They would just build another one from the design.

Who would? It was classified and everybody who knew about it was either dead or Ben Affleck, and Affleck can't make another by himself since he doesn't know what the other guy did to help him build it, what with the whole 'memory erasing' thing.

I don't think everyone who knew about it is dead. And in any case, it's unlikely the design was destroyed. And now that you mention it, yeah the Affleck character could certainly build it again -- with the design of course.

it's funny, right now I can't remember why it shouldn't be built.

After the machine gets destroyed one of the fed picks up the watch that Michael had. I'm pretty sure the reason the fed picked it up was so to later take it apart and use the technology within the watch as clues to rebuild it (setting up a sequal perhaps).

It would be built again only in time. If there is a possible way to build something than the possibility of it being re-built is in-evitable just a matter of time.

even if you destroy every single shred of evidence of this machine. If it was known that this machine was built in the past than what's stopping someone from re-doing everything from square 1, since it is possible. Remember it took people starting off from scratch to get to where they were( they all started from scratch at one point) so destroying the designs drawings etc would just make it so it would take along ass time to re build it

BUT if we truly wanted it build it would be re build since it already was proven possible.

It reminds me of nuclear weapons. How if after be built the bomb we destroyed all evidence of such a device including back ups what other countries had etc. We would still be able to re-build the bomb it would just take the same process as we used before but this time we would know for sure it would work.

What this means is if something is built once the possibility exist it can be rebuilt unless its some rare material used from space that we can't

Moreover there were patents so a key piece was available to everyone.

Yeah very likely that the machine will be rebuilt some time later...
