Director = Mel Gibson's hair stylist

The director (Paul Abascal) is actually Mel Gibson's hair stylist!
Easily the most interesting bit about this movie.

That explains a lot of things.

that is why exactly i believe that mel gibson actually directed this film.

Yes, I think Mel really directed this also. I was always under the impression that this was his film. Could he have used the other guy's name to distance himself from this or for some other reason?

my thoughts exactly, usually when someone ghost directs its because of money. there are other considerations such as directors guilds, screenwriters guilds etc. because they are effectively unions, anybody that doesn't receive minimum payment doesn't get a credit.

That's right. I doubt Mel had to worry about money here. This is pure speculation on my part, but I suspect, if he actually directed it, that he didn't want this film to be seen as his personal vendetta against the media. He's scuffled a lot with the press, but this film was before the notorious anti-Semitic incident with the cop, so after this he probably had an even bigger ax to grind.

Either that, or he wasn't happy with the film and didn't want it to drag down his career. A lot of directors use the Alan Smithee credit – though this film isn't quite that bad (though I don't think it's very good).

I personally enjoyed it. A silly bit of escapism that is more like a TV movie than anything else, but yes i have to agree with you on your comment. You would think that if he had directed this then it should have been given a theatrical release.
