Can a person really create a car in her subconscious? I get that she had an alter-ego but that doesn't explain where the pick-up truck came from and/or why did she HAD to take Jimmy's car?
Can psychology show that people with disorders can create cars in their mind and even drive them? How can that work?

did you pay attention to the very first scene in the movie? The chase is part of the story she told the police. there was no car; she had the truck the whole time. In a deleted scene in the film, she stumbles upon the truck at alex's parents farmhouse. The very first scene is real, her being interrogated by the police, the rest of the film is her story she is telling the police up until the point the police arrive at the gas station. that is the splice, that is when we are taken from marie's version of things back to actual events.

In the first scene, Marie asks 'is this recording?'. She is giving her "version of the events that happened on tape for the police.
