it is probably a subconscious theft at best. im pretty sure that Aja would have credited Koontz if he knew he was ripping him off. there are no original ideas anymore. everything has been done. so what that HT has some similarities? it doesnt make Aja's monetary compensation less enjoyable to spend. every movie can be compared to another. so shut up. i mean that in the nicest way

I take it you've never read Intensity. It plays out frame by frame until the restroom scene. Its still a good movie. Even if Aja can't come up with an original script, he has skills with the camera.
They mostly come out at night; mostly.
The first half of the movie until the car chase is JUST like Intensity.So he KNEW what he was doing.When the killer comes into Marie's is scene by scene from Intensity.

At Sundance, I called Aja on the alarming similarities between Koontz book and his movie. He hemmed, hawed, blushed and allowed that he had read Koontz's book and that the beginning was "quite similar ... but it's a tribute to all slasher films."
