I'm not a huge fan of this film. But from what I gather it's pretty straightforward. Two people in a decidedly unhappy relationship with their respective spouses find comfort and support in one another's company. Both are lost souls looking for meaning. That they found each other is what the story is to me. Where their relationship goes from there is left up to the imagination.

They made a French documentary about the film about 7 years ago. I forget what it called, something like "Une Fois...".

Anyway, Sofia Coppola was asked this and she said that they never meet after this. It's supposed to be a story of two people spending some time together and then never meeting again, just going on with their lives.

Saying that, I think the ending was left ambiguous on purpose so that you can make up your own ending. I used to also hate media like this until I realised that unclear endings like this actually make the media more re-watchable for me as I can read the scenes different ways depending on my mood and imagine different scenarios of what happened next.

If want to imagine they met up again, there are a few fanfic versions of this on FF and AO3.

What X-rated scenes?

I think the OP must have masturbated during the strip club scene and got retrospectively confused. Also he's going to continue being "ultimately disappointed" if he demands definitive endings.

Yeah, it shows a topless woman for maybe four seconds before cutting to Bill Murray. Other than that, there was the prostitute who never got naked or anything iirc.

My impression when I first saw it was - "Overrated".

I thought it was an excellent movie. I liked it a lot even if the ending was less than stellar. I mean, I think the ending fit the movie because it's a very slow paced film anyways, why have a dazzling end to this movie?

I thought it was perfect. But not everyone will like LiT because of the slow pacing.

Sofia Coppola released another film similar to this called On The Rocks. Bill Murray is also in it. It almost feels like LiT part 2. It's slow paced and Bill even does a singing part.

However, it's not as good as LiT in my view. Anyhow, you can watch it if you've got AppleTV+. link... https://moviechat.org/tt9606374/On-the-Rocks
