Holy Crap I Loved This Film

This is the only Coen Brothers film I hadn't seen (well, aside from True Grit, but I do not see films in theaters any longer). I actually put it on the back burner quite a few times because of negative comments about it combined with the fact that I didn't care much for Intolerable Cruelty, which just goes to reinforce that I should pay little attention to others opinions. I loved it just as much as Fargo and Raising Arizona, which are not just two of my favorite Coen Brothers movies, but two of my all-time favorites.

I just read through a bunch of negative reviews and a surprising percentage of them are UKers offended by the idea of a remake and/or people offended by profanity--the latter often pointing out that they are not bothered by profanity, but they sure took note of it.

It's unbelievable to me that anyone would be offended by profanity at this point in time, but, well

I really enjoyed it. Whilst I consider it one of the Coens weakest films, it is still very good. I give it 7/10. I can't understand all the negative reviews either.

"This sounds like a dialogue from our script!"

This film is great. I've seen the original UK version, but prefer this. It's darker and more cartoonish - a tone I think the original was going for, but didn't quite make it, but of course, it's a '50s British comedy, so I'm wondering how it was recieved back in the day. But I really liked this and felt Tom Hanks' portrayal was an interesting modernization of Alec Guiness. A great outside-of-the-box remake that foreshadows their different take on True Grit. If Hollywood needs to keep remaking movies, give them to the Coens.

I've always found this film tremendously underrated since the day I saw it in theaters.
