Why such a low rating?

6.2 isn't that bad I suppose, but compared to other Coen Bros. films that are so well loved, why does this one pale in comparison? Depsite my love for Big Lebowski, it took several viewings to like it as much as I do. I liked this one from the first viewing. The humor is extremely dark and sardonic, sure, and I've never seen the original, but the Coen Bros have this eccentric sense of humor that I suppose can offend or put some off, but in this day and age, their look at humanity really seems to resognate. And how can you not love Tom Hanks's performance? Maybe like Big Lebowski to me, others need to give this one another look, because it seems that Coen Bros films (especially their comedies) need a little time to grow on you. Time to give Burn After Reading another look as well.

I agree.
I rewatched this last night for the first time since it came out, and I liked it a lot better. The humor is dark and fast, the casting inspired, the performances spot-on.
The gospel scenes are beautiful.
But most of all, this is one of the very few movies for which the Coens bothered to write a satisfying ending, IMHO.

I suggest any Lebowski/Burn After Reading fan to give this one another chance.
