The sackbut

The sackbut serves in two hairy situations as excuse. It's funny whose excuse makes sense. When Marva Munson wonders at Lump's transpiration Gawain comes up with the excuse that Lump "plays one bitch barrel full of a sackbut". He got it right, Lump's instrument is the sackbut. After Garth blew off his finger the Professor remarks: "We do have to get medical attention for Mr. Pancake who during the disturbance pinched his finger in the valve of his sackbut". First: Garth Pancake's instrument is the parforce horn. Second: neither the sackbut nor the parforce horn have valves. Then, later on, after Marva Munson saw the money in the cellar she has to decide whether the Professor's story makes sense. One glimpse at Gawain shows her it doesn't.
