i just watched this
and i have to admit
i have no idea what the hell was going on
i get adam died and was cloned
but who the hell was the other kid
zachary was it? cant remember his name, the one whose name adam replied to sometimes
and who he dreamed about
and who was the kid who died in the river?
was he important?
or just a random dead kid?
and was the original zachary (again sorry if thats not his mame) a clone? the one who killed his mom with a hammer
or was he just messed up
so they cloned him when he died

The doctor had a son named Zachary who was a psycho. The kid killed his mother and burned down his school and his house. The doctor managed to preserve some of the kid in the hope of cloning. He used part of his own dead kid mixed with part of the couple's dead kid to create an embryo in the woman. He didn't think it would be a problem because he thought the idea of memories carrying over was nonsense.

The new kid was born, but when he got up to the age where Adam died, parts of the psycho kid's personality and memories started to kick in. The kid in the river was the bully. Adam's personality kept flipping back and forth between himself and Zachary. The movie never states what happened, but it suggests that the Zachary personality took over Adam and he killed the bully.

Actually the whole reason that the doctor was in the business of cloning dead kids was to bring back his own son Zachary. He DID believe that memories could be retrieved...he only said he didn't to fool Adam's parents. The flashbacks that Adam was having were Zachary's. Because...Adam was in a way becoming Zachary.
