Why did the nurse said these are his kids not yours?

I didn't understand that.
When the kids came the nurse said to Allie these are his kids not yours but by the end of the movie we find out she is their mother. So why did the nurse said that?

reply

Because it would have freaked her out for her to call them her kids, when she is clearly sick and did not know them anymore.

Imagine someone telling you your kids are here, and you did not even know you had kids, due to alzheimer’s.

Just read the book. And the answer is the same reason why when Noah would read the notebook to her, he would tell her his name was Duke: because confronting too much information that she couldn't remember would be too destructive and stressful for her.

Ah now I get it. Thank you !

Also as a bit of a twist for the viewers who hadn't already put two and two together and figured out the young characters were actually the same people as the old characters. There was no other reason to withhold that information except to add some interest for the viewers.

reply

I don't think it was meant to be misleading because the son says during the visit (after she goes inside) that Allie's their mother.

"Two little mice fell in a bucket of cream..."

Coz the old couple story was full of holes...

nothing to say here

She could've just said, "His kids" and left it at that.

My father had Alz and at a certain point, you never told him you were his son or daughter. He would totally freak out, because he couldn't remember his own family. I do not wish this disease on anyone. It is a daily heartbreak, until the end.

Absolutely Right Dick. My grandmother and I were very close, I was her eldest grandson and I know she thought a lot of me as did I her. I moved to the same city as her and spent a lot of time with her about the last 10 years. She got alzheimers pretty quickly and moved next to my aunt 3 hours away. If she was in bad shape when I visited she thought I was my father that she hated early on, I could tell she despised me for who she thought I was. In a day or two she would be well off, call and ask "When are you going to visit me"? Heartbreaking.

Would you have wished it on baby Hitler or would you have murdered the infant instead like Jeb Bush said he would do?

I'm a real kewl kat.🐈

It was almost as if the nursing home staff didn't know they were married.
