What if Noah had the "fiance" and left her for Allie?

Can you imagine the outrage and how hated Noah would have been?

Funny how a simple gender flip can make a movie so loved.

I think about that a lot.

Yeah, but I think that gap or double standard is, and has been much worse for women compared to men (i.e. If a woman has had more than one 'sexual' partner she's a whore, but if we're talking about a male, 'he's the man'). I know that's a typical example. And anyways , I've seen people call Alie plenty of unflattering names for what she did.

I still think that most women (and the reason why the movie is so popular) are okay with Allie doing what she did (leaving Lon for Noah).

Unfortunately we don't see enough of Lon to understand if he's better/worse than Noah.

I'm sure that's by design because if people have to debate between the merits of Lon vs Noah than the movie wouldn't work as well.

People may call Allie unflattering names but I'm confident that most women think she made the right decision when all was said and done.

At least that's what the movie wants you to think.

Wasn't that the plot of My Best Friend's Wedding?

She picked the guy she loved and stopped stringing Lon along. It was a good decision, but I wish she hadn’t cheated. There was no need and Lon didn’t deserve it. What would’ve been better for Lon though - marrying a woman who loved someone else more or moving on and finding his own soul mate? I’m not sure why anyone would disagree with Allie leaving.

I’d feel the same way if Noah had a fiancé. He was seeing someone anyway and I felt bad for her character, like I did with Lon.
