She never wrote a letter to him?

Watched this with my gf last night.. and that's one thing that came to our mind. She never wrote a letter to him.. instead she got all angry about him NOT writing a single letter since all those days. That's rude.

Women hey...

He told her they were done. Finn told her that he said in no uncertain terms they were done. Finn said if he changes his mind he'll write to you. So she was heartbroken but she took that seriously. I see no problem of logic with that.

reply

Completely agree. He broke up with her, his friend said he would write her if he wanted to. I can't blame her for not wanting to look stupid by writing to him after he said it was done.

Allie was a selfish little rich girl, IMO. One of those annoying girls who feels the man has to make EVERY MOVE.

You obviously didn't watch the movie, but you gotta troll huh? (After all you said you slept through it on a couple other threads).

She should have e-mailed. Faster and cheaper. Plus, she would have wowed all her 1940s friends.

And on that topic, why didn't she just Google him to see what happened to him?

I agree. I know lots of people will say we're dumb because that stuff wasn't invented yet and so on and so forth but I think that's a lame excuse. According to the film, their love could do anything.

Obviously none of y'all saw the same movie

but there is a scene at the end when Allie is talking to her mom outside Noah's house where she tell her "You watched me cried for months and months" which means Allie was waiting for a letter from Noah and her mother was keeping them from her. if Allie ever received a letter, she would still have been in a relationship with Noah.

reply

Well if she cried for months and months would it kill her if she wrote one letter instead waiting for such long time for his letter? Not very realistic if you ask me (unless this is supposed to show her education, how they raised her up as spoiled girl who can't take any action because it's too low for her), I can understand she would wait for months but eventually she would write him letter and then they could realize there is something wrong, although then the movie would be much shorter. :) I am sure she would not let it go so easily, there would be still something in your head telling you give it at least one last try before giving up and you have always good reasons to do at least one more try, what if something happened to him and he can't write letters, who knows... So it's better to write letter and get answer and then move on instead of waiting infinitely.

Perfect review of the matter, you could be a screenwriter yourself, nice work.

Finally...............emscott3002.
That`s what happens in the movie.
If you see a movie, see the details, don`t talk with another, go SEE the movie.

reply

if her parents were hiding Noahs letters to her what makes you think her parents werent watching her like a hawk on what letters she sends out/who she talks to , etc.

Finn told her he would write her. She waited but she had the balls to come to him after seeing him in the paper. she had the balls to be out till 2 am w him even tho she knew she'd get BUSTED by her strict parents. she had the balls to put up a fight and fight for Noahs honor when her mom called him TRASH. she didnt just sit and make him come to her.

So after reading 11 replies here which none represents what I first thought:

The parents said she was going to attend Sarah Lawrence College, why didn't he write her there?

They already told him that he couldn't visit her at her home and she already told him to live with her where she went to college, so why write her at her old address instead of where he know she would be?

reply

Good point. She was at college so why send letters to her home?

But that brings us back to the original question. It does not seem clear to me. There are a number of "maybes" being passed around and most of them make sense. However, ultimately there is unanswerable. Maybe she thought he did not want to hear from her. That is the answer that seems to make the most sense to me. People are complex and can do things or not do things for many conflicting reasons. Good storytellers know how to capture that dynamic tension.

Yeah, I think someone who was supposed to be in total love like her, she would of found a way to do it even if she got caught. That was a bit of a fail in the movie.

reply

If the movie made it easier for them to reconnect with each other then there's no drama and no movie.

I think it works completely well even with some of the plot points that defy good logic.
