Pretty Good

This is a short tv special, filmed partly as a concert and part in studio and sets. I don't think there is any doubt the live performances work much better, especially with his trio of backup dancers/singers. Most of the songs are very good, though there are a few that don't work so well for me, one about a housewife and another about morning strangers. Never heard those before.
A highlight is a collection of ad jingles he wrote for companies like Dr Pepper and McDonalds and he fittingly finishes off the show with probably his most famous song I Write the Songs.
There is an homage to American Bandstand I liked, too, though I have no idea why they thought bringing in Penny Marshall to sing and dance during that segment was a good idea. She really cannot sing at all and her dancing isn't much better. Very odd. I almost felt bad for her, she did not look comfortable.
Manilow is at his best when he is just on the stage talking or singing to the audience. He is very engaging and I don't think any of his singing was lip synched. 8/10
